The last year and a half have been tough for all of us. We have faced up to new challenges, we got used to a new lifestyle that we called the new normal, life changed its rhythm and our priorities seem to have shifted.
Thinking about Mamma Mia Foundation’s core activities to provide mothers of children with disabilities with opportunities to work from home and get paid for their products, we were unsure how the new and uncertain situation would affect our work. All of that social isolation, limitations, lack of planning, and prediction catch us off guard. And much to our surprise, 2020 turned out to be a successful year for us!
Firstly, we managed to adapt apace to the new circumstances – the mothers the foundation work with started to sew fabric face masks, that we sold at the markets and the bazaars in which our cause Ole Male participated.
We have opened the first social shop in a mall in Bulgaria, courtesy of Serdica Centre. There are no words to describe our gratitude to Serdica Centre and the Bulgarian brands that partook in and donated all of their profits to Ole Male. This type of collaboration between a social cause and brands was the first of its kind and we are confident it will not be the last one.
Another channel that we created to distribute Ole Male’s products quicker and to reach more customers was through our new website and online shop. We would like to kindly thank Mastercard that always has our back for their invaluable help.
The Ole Male House
As we have previously announced Lozenets Municipality has given the Mamma Mia Foundation a 2-story house to ensure the sustainability of the social function the Foundations plays and to help expand our activities. The building needed to be fully renovated and that is what we have been doing in the past months. All of the repair work was possible thanks to the donations we have received.
Here is a glimpse of what the house looked like when we first saw it.
We have just finished the renewal process. This would not have been possible without the help from Fantastico, Rotary, Ingram Micro, and our friends from the 1 Percent Change Platform.
We would be delighted to be able to show you the house itself and our activities as soon as it is possible. We hope to turn the Ole Male House into a place for gathering and coworking for like-minded people and organizations.
We are proud to say that our 2020 Christmas campaign was hugely successful thanks to all the corporate and individual clients who decided to give a gift with a cause, made by mothers of children with disabilities.
For the second year in a row, we have initiated a joint Christmas campaign with Fantastico, which resulted in almost 150 000 BGN for Mamma Mia Foundation. The sum was accumulated by donations from Fantastico’s customers.
Since January 2021 over 150 000 BGN was deducted back to the mothers we work with.
We have also managed to organize a campaign to help fund the Social Teahouse in Varna to help them keep working despite the pandemic and isolation.
With the help of the readers of Maiko Mila and the friends of Ole Male, we managed to fund the operation of baby Boyan in Turkey. Boyan is feeling well now and is recovering in his hometown of Veliko Tarnovo.
The kindness of our readers has helped also to pay for the stay of little Yasen’s family in France where he will undergo an eye operation to cure his eye tumor.
You may remember Katyusha and her daughter Vili who became homeless last spring. They are now living in municipal housing, again renovated with donations by our readers. The foundation has received enough money to cover the two women’s expenses. Vili is almost 34 years old with cerebral palsy. Katyusha and Vili will receive the medical care help they need, and Vili will be able to finally receive the rehabilitation that she never had.
Stay tuned for our next campaign in favor of the Pink House and the organization behind it, helping people with addiction.
Why We Do What We Do?
We love seeing you, talking with you at bazaars, and other events. Thank you for choosing Ole Male’s martenitsi, fabric face masks, Christmas decorations. Your words of encouragement and smiles are the reason we know it’s all worth it, and your constant support is the proof our work is worth it.
Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!
